The U.S. tax system is both similar and different from the Canadian version. To make things worse, we use different terms on the same concepts. For example, IRS is the American equivalent of CRA; Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) is the American equivalent of Business Number (BN). How about Good and Service Tax (GST)? Well, there is no such a thing in the U.S. because the U.S. doesn’t have sales tax on the federal level and services are exempt from sales tax most of the time.
